Hope=Trueblood (the equal sign is not pronounced) was four hopeful and true Chicago musicians who combined their youth and experience to build an aggressive, yet soulful sound where the integrity of the song was placed above all else.
They began recording in late '95 for demonstration purposes only, but as the recordings progressed it became apparent to the band and producer Brian Eaton that the songs deserved to be released commercially.
The sound on Tall Confession, their debut and only album, layers the raw lead vocals with two, three, and even four-part harmonies on top of a wall of thick, aggressive guitars and thunderous low-end bass and drums. This combination is true to the band's influences of Mother Love Bone and Alice in Chains, and at times conjuring up images of King's X and Tool.
From the beginning grind of "Ad Libitum" and the mid-song mood swings of "Torture" and "Take My Life" to the shinning harmonies of "Feel" and "Bottle," Hope=Trueblood shows that music can maintain its aggressiveness while still expressing emotional and thought-provoking lyrical compositions.
